Services

Give the draft the right kind of editorial attention.

Choose a final text check for a stable manuscript, or a fuller edit that considers structure, reading flow and language together.

01

Structure & reading flow

Review chapter order, transitions, repetition and gaps in explanation. Comments distinguish the issue from a suggested next step, so you can decide how to develop the draft.

Chapter logic · pacing · reader context

02

Line editing & copyediting

Refine sentence flow, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Establish consistent terminology and spelling preferences while keeping choices that contribute to your authorial voice.

Clarity · rhythm · a working style sheet

03

Manuscript proofreading

Check a stable text for surface errors and inconsistencies before it moves into layout. Query uncertain wording and distinguish corrections from optional suggestions.

Final text check · visible queries

What the editing packages cover

Focused manuscript edit and Book-length edit include a review of chapter order, transitions, repetition and missing context, alongside line editing and copyediting. Structural recommendations are explained through comments and the editorial letter.

We refine the language in the supplied manuscript. Writing new chapters, carrying out substantial structural rewrites or developing a book from notes requires a separate agreement.

All packages use an editable DOCX. We agree spelling preferences, the target reader and any voice or style choices you want to retain before editing.

Proofreading is a distinct stage.

Final proofread checks the text of a stable DOCX for spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency. It does not include structural editing or a separate review of typeset pages.

If layout changes the text later, that version may need its own proofread. The editing packages do not include a second final proofread after substantial author revisions.

Factual accuracy, quotations, permissions and specialist content remain with the author. We query apparent issues rather than presenting unverified details as confirmed.

Scope, fees & files

Three packages with defined limits.

Choose by draft stage and word count. Tell us if your manuscript falls outside these limits so we can agree a specific quote.

Discuss this package

Indicative project fees in Canadian dollars for one English-language manuscript supplied as an editable DOCX. The word limit includes headings, notes, captions and other text submitted for editing; the editorial letter and style or consistency sheet are additional deliverables. One revision round is one consolidated response to editorial queries and in-scope comments, not a fresh edit of a substantially rewritten manuscript. Production starts after scope approval and receipt of the complete file; time awaiting your review is additional. Research, specialist fact-checking, reference verification, translation, ghostwriting, typesetting, print-layout proofreading and publishing are outside these packages. The quote confirms the total fee, applicable taxes, schedule and payment terms.

Illustrative examples

See the change.
Understand the reason.

A correction fixes an error. An editorial suggestion opens a choice. Our comments make that distinction visible as you review the manuscript.

01 / Resolve an unclear reference

Help the reader follow the action.

Draft

Mara put the notebook beside the lamp. It had belonged to her father.

Proposed edit

Mara put her father’s notebook beside the lamp.

Editorial query: Does the notebook belong to her father, rather than the lamp? This edit assumes the notebook. Please confirm before accepting.

02 / Give a sentence room to land

Keep the image. Adjust the rhythm.

Draft

The rain kept falling and the station clock had stopped and I waited beneath it, counting the trains.

Optional edit

The rain kept falling. The station clock had stopped, and I waited beneath it, counting the trains.

Editorial comment: The break gives the stopped clock more weight. If the repeated “and” is part of the narrator’s breathless voice, keep the original rhythm.

03 / Put the context where it is needed

Make the chapter easier to enter.

  1. Current orderRecommendations → background → method → observations
  2. Suggested orderBackground → method → observations → recommendations

Editorial comment: For a reader new to the topic, the background and method explain how the recommendations were reached. Consider retaining a short opening summary if readers need the main point first.
